A few weeks ago I decided that I needed an advent calendar for Ethan. I didn't want to make one. I figured I could get something great at Etsy. After searching for a while, I was disappointed with the selection and the costs. So, like all good crafters I decided that the advent calendar wasn't going to happen this year, and I gave up.
That lasted about two days. At which time I decided I would just buy an easy advent kit and sew up the calendar in no time. So I set off for my local quilt store in search of a kit. Of course they had kits for every other holiday decorations, except advent calendars. I considered buying a pattern but didn't see one I liked. I left the shop and decided the advent calendar wasn't meant to be this year.
That was when I came across this article online, and then this one. I may have been searching for "advent calendar ideas", but who is keeping track, right?
So now I have ideas for simple, holiday activities for the entire month of December for us to share with Ethan. But I have no advent calendar. That's okay! I'll just print them out and put them in a cute little container.
Perfect.
A few days later I was visiting this site, which I usually check out a few times a week. Which lead me to this blog. Which lead me here. And then I found this.
Crap.
The last week in November and I find the perfect advent calendar pattern. Did I mention that we're living at Geoff and Shona's? And trying to move into the cabin before the beginning of December? And that my son is almost two? I'm sure there could not be a better time to start on this project. Of course I noticed the original pattern was posted in July for those people who are much better organized than I am.
To be honest I am as happy as a clam working on this project. Life has been stressful lately and it has been fun to focus my energy on quilting again. Now, I just need to get it finished before next week.
The Sew, Mama, Sew is definitely the best one out there. Of course, I found it after I finished the bridal advent calendar! But I'm planning to make one for us next year.
